Safety and Environmental Coordinator

Position Overview
This position is within our Astral division and is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining a variety of environmental, health and safety programs to assure safety for all employees, protection of the environment and protection of company assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
- Reviews facility permits, applicable regulations, and work practices to identify environmental concerns and assure implementation of appropriate controls
- Ensure that federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes are observed. Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements
- Ensure all environmental obligations are completed
- Draft and review permit applications, regulatory notifications, periodic reports and records, and environmental management plans
- Conduct risk assessments, maintain documentation and review as needed
- Circulating lessons learned created to enhance communication of safety incidents
- Coordinate annual training required for new and existing employees
- Participate in development and implementation of environmental management systems, emission tracking systems, emergency preparedness, risk assessments and related programs
- Lead and conduct safety meetings
- Participate in annual Industrial Hygiene testing
- Evaluate and review safety procedures
- Create, maintain and train company personnel on all applicable EH&S policies and procedures
- Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis
- Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries
- Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices
- Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations
- Maintain site-specific policies
- Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Management or related degree with safety or environmental focus
Experience
- Experience: 3 - 5 years in an industrial manufacturing setting, with major concentration of job duties relating to environmental, health and safety
- Knowledge of Federal EPA, state and local environmental regulations
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience
- Experience in workplace inspections and identifying hazards
- Experience in risk assessments
- First Responder / Aid / CPR training / management of blood borne pathogens
- Certified in OSHA 10+ or 30 + hour certified desirable
- 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or the ability to attain this certification
